Malygo's loot table only shows him dropping Reins of the Azure Drake, but based on my experiences yesterday, he also drops Reins of the Blue Drake, a drop from The Occulus.
Strats for soloing after the break.
Entrance to The Eye of Eternity
The entrance is located in Borean Tundra, in the western region called Coldarra.
Take the instance portal on the third floor of the Nexus.
Once inside click on the orb to start the encounter.
Malygos
If you're doing this alone, make sure you set raid to 10 man, I wiped a few times on 25 at 38% before I figured out he's not supposed to have 16 million health.
Phase 1 100% HP - 50% HP
He'll melee for 10-20k, and he does an arcane breath which hits for around 20k. He also pulls you up once or twice during the encounter with Vortex and do some damage to you, you can only use instant ranged attacks on him when he does this. Power Sparks will fly towards him during the fight, he's buffed with power spark if it touches him, if you kill the sparks they drop to the floor and drops a pool that's 50% more damage done if you stand in it.
Phase 2
Nexus Lords and Scion of Eternity fly around the platform, kill a Nexus Lord and click on their disc to fly. Malygos will breathe on the ground but you don't really have to worry about it if you're in the air.
Phase 3
This phase you're on a dragon, you have a couple of different moves but you only really need the first 3 moves. When he places a Static Field on you move out of it.
What to do:
Phase 1, wait until you have at least one power spark under you, pop your cooldowns and burn him til he's under 50%, ranged will be able to get him lower as he flies away, he'll always have at least 1% left because the encounter doesn't end until phase 3 is complete.
Phase 2 Kill all the adds while flying around.
Phase 3 Start by pressing 3 to stack Revivify to 5 stacks before Malygos engages you. After that you want to press 1 which is Flame Spike 2-4 times to build combo points. You'll use those combo points by pressing 2 to Engulf in Flames. Note that you do not do more damage when you have more combo points, it just adds to the duration. The goal here is to build up stacks of Engulf in Flame fast, while refreshing your Revivify stack so it doesn't fall off. Note that it takes 50 energy to use Engulf in Flames and only 10 to use Flame Spike and Revivify, and each time you push 1 or 3 your combo points are reset, so try to always use up your combo points before you heal yourself. Ranged is going to have an easier time because he'll start off with less health.
TLDR:
Phase1: Pop CDs after you have 1 spark, keep hitting him as he flies away.
Phase2: Kill adds and use their disc to fly.
Phase 3: Start with 3,3,3,3,3 then use 1,1,2,3,1,1,2,3,1,1,2,3,1,1,2,3,1,1,2,3,1,1,2,3 Repeat til dead.

Love the guide, just wanted to point one thing out. The reins of the blue drake do not drop in the Occulus, as far as i know it has always been a drop from malygos in EoE norm or heroic.
ReplyDeleteHey SOH,
DeleteIt can still drop from the last boss in Occulus, at least it is listed as such on Wowhead, but Malygos is much easier to get it from I think. http://www.wowhead.com/item=43953
You can only get it from Oculus if you do it in a LFD group (meaning you have to be lvl 80 and queue up for it) because it can only drop from the bonus bag they added to this specific dungeon due to nobody liking it back in WotLK. Actually to be more specific, you can't even just be level 80 and queue up for Oculus specifically... You have to be level 80 WITHOUT Cataclysm on your account yet (otherwise there is no option to queue for random lvl 80 heroics, only cata normals) and then you need to queue for RANDOM HEROICS until you end up getting lucky and having Oculus as your dungeon, and THEN you have to get SUPER lucky and get the Blue Drake from the end loot bag which is something like a 1-3% chance I think.
DeleteI stand corrected, it can be looted from the Cache of the Ley Guardian bag you get from finishing Occulus. As you say though it looks like getting it from Malygos is more likely speaking in terms of drop%. I still have yet to try the 10man solo, I was just wondering what you think the minimum average gear level would be to succesfully solo 10man? Would you say it is comparable to Sarth3D 10 man?
ReplyDeleteDoesn't work anymore. Need a new guide for phase 3.
ReplyDeleteWork just fine, stop giving shit info dude.
ReplyDeletestop kidding yourself, or trolling. It can't be done solo
DeleteWorks just fine, really easy if you don't spam the buttons
DeletePhase 3 doesnt work
Deleteit does work, I just did it on my DK
DeleteIt does work, just be a man and get Maly to 0 health in phase 1 and then phase 3 shouldn't be an issue, press 1 once and he dies.
DeleteConfirming can still be solo'd I didn't even get him below 45% in Phase 1.
DeleteYou absolutely cannot let the stacks fall off, the MOST VITAL part of this whole guide is
Phase 3: Start with 3,3,3,3,3 (until you start fighting) then use 1,1,2,3,1,1,2,3,1,1,2,3,1,1,2,3,1,1,2,3,1,1,2,3 Repeat til dead, this was about 26 stacks of fire breath for me.
Thanks a ton. First try and I got the blue drake
ReplyDeleteit's impossible to solo idiots. Can't do it
ReplyDeleteI just did it today. Works just fine. 3,3,3,3,3 and then 1,1,2,3,......works just fine. Other are not idiots if you are in capable or following simple instructions.
ReplyDeleteYep, instructions worked great (when followed to a T). Thanks!
ReplyDeletepeople who can't solo this at 90 should quit.
ReplyDeletehow about the fact that the second attack takes a minute to cooldown even when followed to the "T" what then? I get him down to 2m flat but the piece of shit drake is the annoying part, so your comment about being 09 means you need to stfu. has nothing to do with being 90. The drake isn't able to quickly do 1,1,2,3. You do 1,1...........2,3
ReplyDeletenoob lol... theres no cooldown on 2... its energy based. The right side canister shows drake energy and you need it half full before you can use 2.. so instead of spamming like a tard, just wait a second between each press and wait till you have 50 energy for 2.
Deleteand yes I just did it 10 minutes ago, on the first try with these instructions..
DeleteTHANK YOU!
ReplyDeleteGreat instructions which enabled me to solo a boss which I could never finish alive in 25 man teams :)
Downed him solo on 25 just now. Thanks for the rotation. Stay out of Static on the drake and you win. Period.
ReplyDeleteAnd if you are lucky enough to be a druid with ysera's gift (or another passive healing talent) you can solo 25 Heroic with ease. I never even touched the healing buttons, just nuked it as a boomkin until about 20% then in last phase, 111112 and move out of static crap.
ReplyDeleteWorked Perfectly. Just Used them To Complete on a 90 Shadow Priest Solo. Then Again On My DK
